If you are looking for a rental car in Chisinau, you have certainly heard of a deposit or security deposit. It is one of the most frequently asked questions we receive at Justrent, so we decided to explain in a way that everyone can understand how this deposit works and what to expect.
What is a deposit for car rental services?
A deposit is an amount of money that you temporarily pay when you rent a car. Basically, it is a security that covers any damage to the car or additional costs, such as fines, remaining fuel to fill up or late return.
Important to remember: the deposit is not a tax or an additional payment, but an amount temporarily blocked on the card or left in cash, depending on your preference.
Why is a deposit needed?
This protects both the car rental company and you, the customer. No one leaves with the thought of incidents, but small accidents or other unforeseen situations can occur at any time. The guarantee is like a safety policy: if you return the car in good condition, your money will be returned in full.
How much does the guarantee cost?
At Justrent, the amount of the guarantee depends on several factors:
- Car class: small, economical cars have a lower guarantee, while SUVs or luxury rental cars require a higher guarantee.
- Rental duration: in some cases, for extended periods, special conditions can be established through negotiation.
- Insurance type: if you choose extended insurance, the guarantee can be significantly reduced or even eliminated.
How is the guarantee paid?
You have two options:
- Card blocking – the amount is temporarily blocked on your card, it is not actually withdrawn. After you return the car in good condition, the amount is unblocked;
- Cash payment – if you prefer, you can leave the deposit in cash, and it will be returned in full upon return, if there are no problems.
When and how do you get your deposit back?
At Justrent, returning your car rental deposit is simple and fast:
- If you return the car on time, clean, with the same level of fuel and without damage, we will return your deposit on the spot, if you paid in cash or we will release it on your card in 1-5 business days, depending on your bank.
- If fines or repairs occur, part of the deposit may be withheld until the situation is clarified.
What happens if the rented car has damage?
If scratches or other problems are found upon return, the value of the repair will be deducted from the deposit, based on a report and, if necessary, a report from the insurer. At Justrent we are fair and transparent: you will receive all the necessary documents and explanations, without unpleasant surprises.
Can the deposit be avoided?
Yes, by choosing additional insurance. Justrent offers extra policy options that can reduce or even eliminate the deposit. It is an ideal option for those who do not want to block money on the card or want to travel without worries on vacation or on delegations.
Some useful tips when renting a car in Chisinau:
- Find out in advance about the deposit amount, so you are prepared;
- Carefully check the car upon pick-up and note any scratches or defects;
- Keep the gas receipts and return the car with the same level of fuel;
- Respect the return time to avoid additional fees;
- Use your card to pay, not someone else's, to avoid administrative problems.
